Writing Porn is Just a Hobby

A Fulfilled Reader of “Secrets & Seduction” by Cheri Blossum

My friend said the other day, “These guys don’t get that writing porn is simply writing.”

She refers to comments made by certain men who believe I have an erotic life because I enjoy writing porn. They felt justified with their assessment when they discovered I edited Cheri Blossum’s “Secrets & Seduction,” a highly erotic parody of 50 Shades. “Secrets & Seduction” is hard core pornography. Yet, at the same time, it has an amazingly solid plot and fascinating characters with enough twists and turns to keep the reader transfixed until the very end. They call it a “page-turner.” That’s what I call GOOD porn.

Porn, I found out, rather GOOD porn, is difficult to write. There’s a fine line between silly and titillating, a high-wire writing which requires skill. It’s very hard not to laugh at words coined for genitalia, let alone descriptions of sex organs, sex acts as well as moans, groans, whispers and final culmination. Not to mention a tension that builds so the reader will return over and over, or at least to leaf through the entire book to find juicy passages with which to masturbate.

Now, THAT requires talent!

Then, there’s another kind of porn, the kind I really enjoy writing: satire. I like to say it’s porn because it gets the same reaction that porn does - laughter, discomfort, outrage, anger and self-righteousness, not to mention the masturbatory action.

Lately, I’ve expended considerable time blogging satire. It has turned into insatiable porn, or as I like to describe it, “the popcorn/potato chips of subversive reading” - you just can’t read only one post! All about the goings-on of the community’s looney tunes, M Butterfly. There’s outrage, anger, laughter, self-righteousness and gossip flying all over the place. I wonder, though, whether there’s other stuff as well from all that masturbation!

At any rate, I wanted to write about other things going on, but M Butterfly, as usual takes center stage.

“You should have an entire blog devoted to the Butterfly,” stated several people who approached me the other day.

“I never laughed so hard my entire life,” confessed others.

“The Butterfly was always crazy, but lately he turned a corner. It must be the onset of senior dementia,” stated his closest friend.

The Butterfly recently discovered my blog and all the posts associated with him and went off the deep end. This is a good thing because he told the world and I got a flurry of clicks which only added coin to my pocket. It’s also good in that he introduced a new audience to my blog and books. I’m grateful for this free promotional campaign because I couldn’t afford this invaluable service.

The only downside is that the Butterfly has shut down. No more B&Es, no more vandalism, no more shrieking in public, no more acting inappropriately and most importantly, he showered.

Then again, knowing who and what he is, it’s only a matter of time before he breaks.

Stay tuned...
